I own one and it is my favorite synthesizer of all time and i never ever will give this beast away!!! Yes i am serious.

I love this thing so much. Sounds might be close to a matrix 1000 but it is so much more then that (i owned both).

Those wailing horns, those bloody strings, so much awesome! Multitembral, 6 voice poly heaven in a box. There is a lot of software out there to program your own sounds (CTRLR, max for Live, and one for the i-pad) and it is very easy to get awesome results and yes you NEED that software solution. Programing it on the hardware panel would be a nightmare. I had mine checked by my local synth doctor and we had to change the batterie, update the OS (in order to be able to program it via software) and remove even some old battery acid from the inside. Some of them can be pretty beat up, some folks sell em already maintained.

Mine is even modded with 6 extra outputs. If you get your hands on one, this is where you can get the OS and batteries and whatelse: A friend of mine is selling one. Only because he has 2 of them and his setup can´t handle the fatness of two cheetahs.

Sorry, this is my last edit to it. If you are like a guy with money, i´d check the KIWI patch editor as an edition: • • • •. I never had much trouble with it but i tend to be rather gentle to this old lady. Never tried testing its limits. I give it a warm up time of 20 minutes before i play it. From time to time it adjusts itself after start. Sometimes you got silence but then you just enter the patch number again and its all good.

It never stopped mid-performance. Having the latest OS. The old ones can´t Midi CC i think at least no editor worked. My friend might sell it around 500-600 euros or do a barter. I gotta check on it.

It might be sold already. Dude sells all the time. Bigest concern would be how old it is and again, some i found pretty beat up. I was surely very lucky with mine. If you are after one, take your time, buy from trusted sources (well--- duh.sure you do). These sound great.

I've owned one and worked on several. The one reliability issue with these is that the transformer sometimes shorts to the chassis, which fries things in the power supply.

It's a common failure mode due to a poor layout design. It usually takes about three hours to rebuild the PSU if it's fried. Sometimes this will also kill the EPROM. The rest of the circuit is solid and not very complicated. Each voice is a CEM3396 synth voice IC with two variable waveform oscillators, a VCF, and 2 VCAs.

There are 6 voices. There's an EPROM upgrade available from the Cheetah MS6 page. There's not a whole lot of circuitry in it, so not as many things that can go wrong as, say, an OBX. If you can get one for less than $600 and it's working, I'd say it's a good score.
