Make digital reading even easier with Google Play Books, featuring smart recommendations personalized just for you, access to millions of best sellers, comics, and textbooks, and loads of customizable features. I have a couple of suggestions for the developers. Firstly, please can we have the ability to mark books as favourites, and 'pin' our favourites to the top of the app's lists, or maybe even make a seperate list for the marked favourites?
+ The Chronicles Of Riddick 3 + So, I've watched the entire Riddick series. Even Pitch Black, and the animated movie Dark Fury which most people don't know about. I'm very much looking forward to this movie, even though I don't expect it to hit theatres until 2013 -_-.
Also, the 'mark finished' facility should be optional, and we should have the ability to switch it off in the settings: some of us like to re-read good books, and don't want to get rid of them. @Ric TheSeagull: no app, except the phone's native camera, can write directly to SD card in any version of Android later than Gingerbread. This is an OS feature, not the fault of the app. Please stop asking the developers for the impossible. New update still can't download books to sd card!!! The app itself is very good as well as the books. Unfortunately, the biggest downside is a massive disadvantage, that you cannot yet download the books to the sd card.
This means the app will drink up your internal storage thereby limiting me to just one book, which may at some stage need to be uninstalled because of the storage issue and use a different app altogether. The app itself is smooth to operate and excellent realism to the actual book with the added bonus to zoom in on pages. I also love the night mode it has too! Love the new skim mode, footnote handling, highlighting, and visual refresh. Very fast and fluid feeling, even on huge epubs with many footnotes like the Bible. The best ePub reader now. UPDATE 2017-12-15: Neglected app with almost no active development or response to valid feedback.
Add ability to disable dictionary lookups. Add continuous highlighting.
Add the ability to make collections or 'shelves' of books for personal organization. Add audiobook support for books with audio versions. And on and on.

For an older Version (but problem is still there) ***My phone was freezing up when I started to read aloud a book. My problem was fixed by turning off the lock screen. But now my phone is always exposed because I use this app too frequently to have any issues with it. My problem is resolved but no thanks to Google. I still cant make the other voices in a voice set work for reading aloud a book I still have to listen to the default first voice in a voice set. Now I don't know if it's Google Play Books issue Google text to speech issue. I have reported this problem on both apps but still it isn't fixed.
It has been over a year. Problem--when I set it to read aloud and then set it back books always snap back to the last read aloud point if I switch to another app focus or let the screen time out and sleep. Corrects to last read (not aloud) if I exit a book and re-enter, but defaults back to last aloud point. I constantly am leaving the app to check a message, returning to find it stuck at the read aloud point, exit and re-enter at last read point. ALSO, developer response shows lack of awareness; there is no problem USING read aloud, it's that I have to force close the app or restart the phone to get it to stop returning to last read aloud points WHEN I AM NO LONGER USING READ ALOUD. This is not a fluke, I have seen the problem on my previous Pixel XL and now this Pixel 2, both stock with no operating system modifications or customization-- this is an app software flaw. I should be able to switch from normal reading aloud and back, switching to other apps and back, KEEPING the progress of the last selected mode, not just read aloud mode.
UPDATE, seems partly fixed, but reading progress is still somewhat sticky switching to other apps.
