3d Life Player Installation Required
After a poor experience with Samsung and still no Atmos support on Xbox One I was happy to find that the Sony X800 is virtually flawless for my needs - those being playing 4K uHD discs and the occasional 1080p BD. Don't really care about apps. My Sony 940D has all those already. As a disc player the setup was easy, load times are fast and there is a nice resume feature.
Was startled the first time the entire front flipped down for a 5' tray. Also - ATMOS listeners will need to toggle a certain setting (forget the name but it's 3rd one down list) to send pure bitstream for Atmos playback. Took me 40 mins to figure that one out. Odd that player would ship with Atmos defaulted to disabled. Watched a dozen movies already; Batman, Hunger Games, Bourne, Suicide Squad, San Andreas, Magnificent 7, Star Trek(s) and they ALL look incredible and sound amazing.
GREAT player at a very fair price. Xbox offers gaming for same money but I've never watched a movie on Xbox that didn't have skipping and/or lip-sync issues and still no Atmos till April update. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
I purchased a new 4K OLED TV last year, but I was hesitant to get a new 4K Blu-ray player due to the lackluster reviews of last year's models from other name brands. Sony has always delivered top-notch performance in its Blu-ray players, and this one was well worth the wait. PROS: - Sturdy, premium build quality. It may seem like a minor thing, but this player is built like a tank and doesn't feel like a cheap plastic box (like most Blu-ray players). The rigid build quality and understated design is certainly welcome to those who prefer a tidy home entertainment center. - Quiet operation.

I can't hear any noise coming from the player during playback. - Extremely quick and responsive. Honestly, I've never experienced a disc player that loads discs and responds to commands from the remote so quickly. - Dual HDMI outputs.
HDMI 2 is reserved for audio-only output. Perfect for those with older soundbars or receivers that can't pass through an HDR signal.
- Perfect picture quality. I've tried several UHD Blu-rays, 3D Blu-rays, regular Blu-rays, and even some old DVDs. All look stunning. For UHD Blu-rays, the player automatically engages the HDR mode on my TV without me having to do anything. Regular Blu-rays and DVDs are upscaled almost flawlessly.
The player has given new life to my movie collection. - Wide selection of streaming apps, including Vudu, YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon. A recent firmware update enabled HDR playback via the YouTube app, which is very convenient since my TV's built-in YouTube app does not support HDR. - Tons of options and settings for videophiles and audiophiles. The settings menu is very extensive and should satisfy even the most discerning home theater enthusiasts. COULD BE BETTER: - Initial set-up is straightforward, but you'll likely have to tweak some of those advanced settings to get this player to work seamlessly with your TV and/or receiver.
For example, it wasn't immediately obvious that I had to go into the audio settings and turn off the 'mixing' setting to get the player to bitstream audio to my soundbar. I also had to manually enable the HDMI 2 audio output in the HDMI settings. It's too bad these things aren't included in the initial set-up wizard when you first power on the player - but certainly not a deal-breaker. - This isn't necessarily a fault of the player, but make sure you're using new high-speed HDMI cables that support UHD and HDR. Look for cables that are 'certified premium' to ensure maximum compatibility.
- With Dolby Vision becoming more and more popular, I hope Sony will decide to support the technology via a future firmware update. OVERALL: If you've been holding off on a 4K UHD Blu-ray player for your new TV, the wait is over -- Sony has delivered arguably the best Blu-ray player yet, and certainly the best value for your money.
If you buy the player by June 30, you'll also get a coupon for 2 free UHD Blu-ray movies from Sony. This is a hard deal to pass up. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I've been waiting for this 4K Player since it was first announced at CES. Ordered it for in-store pickup from the website and was ready the following day (really impressed with the speed and accuracy of my order, THX BB). Easily connected it to my Sony XBR-55X850D.
I only have a couple 4K movies, for now, and have been testing them along with their regular Blu-Ray counterparts and the difference is amazing. The picture is absolutely gorgeous. Also, Sony's running a deal that you can get 2 free 4K movies with the purchase and registration of the player.
Definitely worth the wait for this one. A true 4K Ultra HD Blu Ray player. Took Sony awhile but it was worth the wait. I have the XBR65Z9D along with the HTNT5 soundbar and they all work fluently together. This player has a superb build quality and outputs the best 4K picture I've seen to date. And at only $299, it's worth the money.
I'm not sure how in sync it will be with non Sony TVs or if you will experience the same fluidity as me since all of my electronics are Sony brand but I believe this is your best bet when it come to 4K players. I got this bad boy a few days after getting a 65X930E. This should almost be a must have to go with any TV with HDR. The movie library will catch up soon and the movie pricing will go down. Watching a movie in HDR reminds me of seeing HD for the first time.
Everything pops. Even the most boring scenes in previous viewings become something that you pay attention to.
The actual player is pretty bland at the moment. Basic menus and very little apps. Apps did not factor in my review though because if you have a smart tv or a fire stick, then why would I ever use them? The dual HDMI output was key for me because my Denon Atmos receiver does not support HDR. Hooking up a second HDMI to my TV is only a minor inconvenience when you hear Pacific Rim in Dolby Armos.
The actual player looks awesome on my TV stand. An awesome black box that was heavier than I expected, but the performance matches with the look and is just fantastic. Also if you get one in the next couple of months, you can register to get 2 free 4K BluRays from the Sony picture store. Nothing amazing, but I picked up Angry Birds for free and it looks ridiculous.
It is possible using the 3dxml Player, but not likely using 3dvia Player. The 3dvia Player works with two VMO files. One is the actual player, and the other contains the necessary information for the model. The player loads first, then goes looking for the necessary information for the model.
When it looks for this model info, 3dvia made it so it can only look at model info on the 3dvia site. However, a good alternative is the 3dxml Player. With 3dxml Player: This is the same technique as used on this site: Care to explain why you cannot upload your model to 3dvia? Dear all, I am new to this and only visiting because I have just bought the book 'Paris La ville a remonter le temps' which has augmented reality pages. I have followed all steps and links I could find and I have thoroughly read many forum posts about the player, but I can only conclude that either I'm stupid or the information is incomplete/contradictory. It might also be a combination of the two. What most strikes me is that there are multiple mentions of an iMac version, but in the troubleshooting/requirements sections, only Windows is mentioned.
On the forum, the admins often say there IS a Mac version, but it doesn't seem to work. At the end of the most viewed sticky post about it, an admin says: 'As we have yet to receive a stable version of the 3DVIA Player on MacOS I'm going ahead and say that we do not support MacOS deployment of the 3DVIA Player.
Both the 3DVIA Player and the Studio Player. Until such time as we have stable and wide support for the MacOS.' Doesn't the second sentence completely contradict the first sentence? I don't understand. Does that mean there IS a Mac version but it doesn't work?
Wouldn't it be better to just discontinue the Mac version until it works? I will give you as much information as I can and I really hope to find a solution. I'm on an iMac and use OS X 10.6.8. The link to the book's 3D experience is.
When I first went to that, it said to install the 3DVIA player. I did and got the 'Installed succesfully' notification. However, when I then go the same link, it doesn't ask me to install the player anymore, luckily, but it tells me the player 'doesn't support Safari in 64 bit mode, please click to see troubleshooting:, which takes me to your requirements page, which only mentions Windows, even in the specific Apple topic.
Also, that Safari notification is funny, because I don't use Safari, I use Firefox. I did, just to make sure, follow instructions to put both Safari and Firefox in 32 bit mode, but that didn't give any results. That measure seems a bit debatable as well, because in one location, I see the player only works with Safari, and in another it's mentioned that it only works with Firefox. So, I'm now afraid that I spent EUR 40 on a book that does not 'work'. Can you help me out? To my knowledge, the 3dvia Player *should* work on Mac, but it is glitchy, hence it is not stable. It does not perform as well as it does on Windows.
The Studio Player should work fine on a Mac. The difference between the 3dvia Player and the Studio Player is that the 3dvia Player is for experiences made with Virtools, an older, paid software.
Virtools used to be it's own company until 3dvia bought them out, hence they changed the name from 3D Life Player (their name for it) to 3dvia Player. The Studio Player is for 3dvia Studio, which is a free, newer software which recently was discontinued. The link you gave leads me to a page containing the 3dvia Player (aka 3D Life Player), not the Studio Player. So, if this is the experience you wish to try, make sure you install from here, and not the Studio site: If you get the Installed Successfully notification upon installing that player, it IS installed successfully. It must be the website itself that configured something wrong.
That's because the Installed Successfully message is displayed in the player itself. Did you try going to a different experience and seeing if that one worked instead? 3dvia Shape, on the other hand, has never had any form of a Mac port, neither is it planned. Hi Tomy, Sorry for my late response.
I did indeed install from the page you mentioned and just did that again to be absolutely sure. Got the 'successful' message again, However, nothing happens with the book, I get the same error messages. Please note that I am not part of the 'scene', so to speak. I just bought a book and the book has augmented reality pages and gives a link to what I should install and that's it. It is apparently a huge project and a greatly succesful one, many of these books have sold. Bear in mind that I get error messages in the program without even so much as holding the book up - it doesn't even start, meaning it can't have anything to do with the book.
I can't test with any other experiences because I have none. Frankly, I didn't even know what this was until I bought the book. But because the book was such a big thing, and sold so many copies, I thought, well, apparently anyone can do it. The whole Paris experience is displayed/featured on 3DS' website () so I'm not sure what the miscommunication is here about what I am trying to do. I am new to this and even though I have read your message multiple times now, I still don't quite know what you are saying. You start with saying 3Dvia (the program that I think is what I need because that is mentioned on the experience page, right?) is glitchy with Mac but Studio Player should work. However, apparently, Studio Player isn't what I need, right?
I'm at a loss here, what can I do? I can contact the publisher, Flammarion, but given the fact that the project has such an elaborate space on 3DS and the problems I have seem to be digital, I'm not sure if that's the way to go? Hi again Tomy, Thank you for your patience. This is the page of the book on the website of the publisher: My French isn't great but Google (translate) is my friend.
It's clearly very popular and has received many reviews and there's a video. So I can't imagine it's the book's issue.
What IS the book's issue though is that nowhere is a clear 'how to' guide - a few simple lines about what to install and system requirements. Or, I missed them, but that's highly unlikely because I thoroughly searched for them.
So, I figured it out myself and found that link you also mentioned - and the rest is history (which is highly applicable with reference to this book, ha). Yes, that is what I am saying. The 3dvia Player, the one you need, is only at it's early stages for a Mac port. The reason I gave the bit about the Studio Player is that sometimes it is also, incorrectly, referred to as 3dvia Player, so you should make certain which one you're talking about first before you ask around about it. If you try downloading the VMO file from this link: If you open that in a browser, does it show up then or is your browser unable to recognize the filetype? If it opens in the browser, it's a problem with that webpage's code in specific. Otherwise, it's a configuration issue.
I don't have a Mac at hand so I apologize I cannot try this for myself. It was developed with Windows in mind and later ported to Mac, but regardless, it should work for a Mac. Some features might be missing, however, that is required by the experience you are trying to run, hence you get an error. If you go here: and you see the gears turning, the installation worked, and the only reasons why you are getting an error is: a) the website set the player up wrong b) a feature it uses is not supported in the Mac version. C) you used the wrong installer. Use the one here, not the Beta player.
