My first RAMDisk software was Cenatek RAMDisk. Now its known as Everything was fine with Cenatek version but there was one little problem - it was trial. For example I had 1 GB of RAM. Since evel XP eats about 250 MBs I had only 750 MBs of free RAM. DataRAM allowed to create 424 MB maximum size disk with that.

The reason was found in docs. The amount of memory reserved by RAMDisk for the OS is 512 MB. Therefore, the maximum size RAMDisk you can create = Installed RAM - 512 MB.

So I decided to find an alternative. Currently I've tested only 3 of 7 and stuck with Gavotte RAMDisk v1.0.4096.5. Freeware, simple interface with basic functions, works in real-time, supports x64. Simply enoguh because my motherbarods does not allow me to install enough memory. Currently im runnig with 12GB ram which only is enough for 7-zip 1gb Lzma2 2xthreads and i want to run with 8 threads. Physsical ram disk with like 36GB ram and put swapfile on there should help a bit on the speed i hopeSounds like a very bad idea, most likely running with fewer threads would be faster. Swapping in and out is a lot of OS work. And always needs a context switch, which takes loong. And with 2/3 of memory being swapped out, you'll need it VERY often. Filesystem parts of the OS were not optimized for RAM disks.

Expect a lot of buffering and copying data from point to point. What interface would it have? All reasonable priced I know use SATA 1. Compared with onboard memory, bandwidth is a joke.
